RNG from Wood Waste

Abstract:

Natural gas has a variety of applications in industries, homes, and the transportation sector. Renewable natural gas (RNG) is being used as a means of reducing greenhouse gas emissions which are harmful to the planet and are produced from burning fossil fuels. This project examines the process of setting up a semi-commercial RNG producing facility by using recycled wood and lumber waste as the feedstock. The biomass is sourced from recyclers of wood waste or wood waste from operations like construction, manufacturing, demolition, etc. across central Canada.  

Laval, Quebec, was chosen as the prime location to construct the plant due to its market need and proximity to resources. Our company’s main advantage would be to compete based on pricing of natural gas and providing jobs for the local economy.  

It was determined gasification would be the more advantageous process. This Process Flow Diagram for this plant contains 4 different sections. Section 100 is Pre-treatment and gasification, Section 200 is Gas Cleaning and Water Gas Shift, section 300 is Acid Gas Removal, and Section 400 is Methanation Reaction.
