Course Enrollment
Graduate Course Enrollment
Students can enroll electronically in graduate courses through the Student Center. Course enrollment will open approximately one month before the start of each term, and at that time students will be provided with instructions about the electronic course enrollment process by email.
Each student will be assigned a random appointment time to enroll in courses, and they will find the enrollment appointment date and time by signing into their Student Center account. Enrollment deadlines for the Winter, Summer and Fall terms are January 15th, May 15th, and September 15th, respectively. (Please note that if these dates fall on a weekend, the course enrollment deadline may be earlier.) The online course enrollment system is automatically closed each term after the enrollment deadline.
After enrolling in courses through the Student Center, students will gain access to the corresponding course sites in OWL Brightspace, Western's online learning management system. OWL course sites only become available once the instructor has created and published the course site. For more information about how to use OWL, please visit Western's OWL Help website.
Graduate Course Audit
To audit a graduate course, a student must submit the Graduate Course Audit Form before the course enrollment deadline. The student must have the instructor’s signed approval to audit the course, as well as approval from their supervisor (if applicable); the course audit form should then be submitted to the graduate coordinator to receive Graduate Chair approval (MEng students: ceeprofessionalgrad@uwo.ca; MESc/PhD students: ceeresearchgrad@uwo.ca).
An audit requires regular attendance and any other obligations as stated by the course instructor in the Comments/Expectations section of the form. If these requirements are not met, the audit will be removed from the student’s record at the instructor’s request. After the enrollment deadline, a student may not make a change from auditing a course to taking it for credit, or vice versa, within a given term.
Undergraduate Course Enrollment
A graduate student may audit an undergraduate course or take an undergraduate course for credit without additional charge only if the course is needed for their degree requirements.
A graduate student wishing to take an undergraduate course must fill out the Undergraduate Course Add/Drop/Audit form and get the approval of the course instructor and their supervisor (if applicable). The form should then be submitted to their graduate coordinator to receive Graduate Chair approval (MEng students: ceeprofessionalgrad@uwo.ca; MESc/PhD students: ceeresearchgrad@uwo.ca). Graduate students enrolled in undergraduate courses must follow all undergraduate regulations.
Enrollment in a Graduate Course Outside Home Program
A CEE graduate student may enroll in a graduate course outside of the Civil and Environmental Engineering department using the Request to Enroll in a Graduate Course Outside Home Program form.
The student must have the signed approval of the course instructor as well as approval from their supervisor (if applicable); the form should then be submitted to the graduate coordinator to receive Graduate Chair approval (MEng students: ceeprofessionalgrad@uwo.ca; MESc/PhD students: ceeresearchgrad@uwo.ca).
