CEE Programs
After completing Western Engineering’s Common First Year, you can enroll in several different options. In your third year of study, you can choose one of the following options:
A. STRUCTURAL ENGINEERING OPTION
In our established Structural Engineering option, students take courses in areas such as Structural Theory and Design, Reinforced and Prestressed Concrete Design, Steel Design, Structural Dynamics, Finite Element Design and Tall Buildings, Soil Mechanics, Business, Engineering Ethics, Sustainable Development
B. ENVIRONMENTAL ENGINEERING OPTION
Environmental engineers minimize society’s impact on the environment, playing an integral role in designing a sustainable future. They develop solutions for a wide range of environmental problems including adapting to the effects of climate change, restoring polluted environments, and managing increased demand for clean water.
C. CIVIL ENGINEERING/HBA
Addressing today’s global, economic, and environmental challenges requires people who are able to find creative yet practical solutions. In just five years, you are prepared to be a technology-proficient leader by combining an Honors Business Administration (HBA) degree at the Ivey Business School with your Bachelor of Engineering Science (BESc) degree.
F. ENVIRONMENTAL ENGINEERING WITH INTERNATIONAL DEVELOPMENT OPTION
These options introduce Environmental Engineering students to the complex societal, environmental, political and economic issues associated with building safer communities in Canada and in the developing world. A centerpiece of the International Development option is the Summer Community Development Placement and Design Project where students have an opportunity to work for four months in developing countries, or in-need communities in Canada.
G. STRUCTURAL ENGINEERING WITH INTERNATIONAL DEVELOPMENT OPTION
These options introduce Structural Engineering students to the complex societal, environmental, political and economic issues associated with building safer communities in Canada and in the developing world. A centerpiece of the International Development option is the Summer Community Development Placement and Design Project where students have an opportunity to work for four months in developing countries, or in-need communities in Canada.
H. CIVIL ENGINEERING AND ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE SYSTEMS ENGINEERING, SMART CITIES AND STRUCTURAL ENGINEERING OPTION
Western's Artificial Intelligence Systems Engineering (AISE) program is a five year concurrent degree program, that will train today's engineers in the required modern tools to meet increasing employment demands and maximize opportunities for graduates. Artificial Intelligence is swiftly becoming an indispensable tool in the structural engineering toolkit, with its applications ranging from design optimization to structural health monitoring (SHM), structural safety, structural design and analysis.I. CIVIL ENGINEERING AND ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE SYSTEMS ENGINEERING, SMART CITIES AND ENVIRONMENTAL ENGINEERING OPTION

Designing interdisciplinary solutions for achieving sustainable development goals including Sustainable Cities and Communities; Affordable and Clean Energy; Clean Water and Sanitation; Responsible Consumption and Production; Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure.
