Why Western Engineering?

I chose Western Engineering because it offers a balance of strong academics, research, and hands-on learning. Being part of a university ranked in the top 1% globally was appealing to me, but I was equally drawn to the many clubs, experiential opportunities, labs, and research opportunities available to undergraduates. I felt Western would give me the opportunity to learn immensely, explore my interests, and enjoy my undergraduate experience along the way.

What do you do in your spare time?

In my spare time, I enjoy watching movies, going shopping, working on personal projects (over an extended period of time), and learning new tools. I also enjoy trying new recipes and spending time with my friends. I like having a mix of activities that let me be creative, learn something new, and simply relax and enjoy my time outside of school.

Can you talk about your extracurricular activities at Western?

My involvement in the Western Engineering community has been an important part of my university experience. This is my second term as a Western Engineering Student Ambassador and my third year as a Big Sister in the BSLS Women in Engineering program. I also regularly attend meetings hosted by different engineering clubs to learn about their opportunities, new tools and explore areas outside my usual interests. I encourage students to get involved because there is truly a community and group for everyone at Western Engineering

Why did you choose your specific stream of engineering?

I initially developed a slight interest in electrical engineering through physics in high school, but my interest grew as I learned how broad the discipline is and how deeply it is connected to everyday life. I love that electrical engineering offers so many different opportunities and areas to explore. There is always something new to learn, understand, and build, which keeps me excited about the field

What is your favourite book, movie or TV show?

My favourite movie series is the Harry Potter franchise (especially the first two movies). There honestly is not any productive or inspirational reason behind it —I simply enjoy it. I find the story, characters, and the settings engaging, and it is something I can revisit repeatedly without getting tired of it. The series has a high rewatch value for me and has become a comfort watch over the years. Whenever I need to relax or unwind, Harry Potter is usually my first choice.

Who do you look up to/admire and why? 

A personality I look up to is BK Shivani – a spiritual mentor and meditation teacher, because her teachings have helped me develop a healthier mindset during stressful periods in and out of university. She emphasizes self-awareness, emotional balance, and the importance of focusing on effort rather than outcomes. I especially admire her perspective on detachment, which has taught me to stay motivated while not letting setbacks define me. Her guidance continues to inspire me to practice self-control, maintain balance, and approach challenges with a positive attitude.
