Our Engineering program stresses fundamental engineering concepts, contemporary design practices, development of interpersonal skills and interaction with engineering practitioners.
In our program, the second and third-year courses are designed to provide a strong knowledge base in the core areas of Mechanical Engineering. Fourth-year students are then allowed to tailor their areas of specialization by taking six advanced technical electives chosen from a list that includes (but is not limited to) courses in Fluid and Thermal Systems, Control Systems, Nuclear Energy Systems, Manufacturing, Robotics, Production Management, Materials Science, Biomechanics, Medical Devices, and NEMS/MEMS devices.
Fourth-year students also complete a major Mechanical Engineering Design Project in which they work closely with faculty and industry partners. This capstone course is the opportunity to apply the concepts and practices that they have learned to address real-world design and fabrication projects.
Our Mechanical Engineering program also offers combined and concurrent degree options. The combined degree program offers Mechanical Engineering degree with Business, Medicine or Law degree. The concurrent degree program allows to combine the Mechanical Engineering program with a major module in the Faculty of Science, Social Science or Arts and Humanities. Combining both programs allows students to graduate with both degrees in less time than it would take to complete each degree independently.
Students in the Mechanical Engineering program also actively participate in international competitions such as Formula SAE (race car), Baja SAE (all-terrain vehicle), Flying Mustangs (model airplane),and SunStang (solar car).
We also offer Accelerated Master’s program to our undergraduate students with the average grade of 80% or higher in their second and third years. It allows students to receive a Master’s degree (MESc) within one year of receiving their Bachelor’s degree (BESc).
