Why Western Engineering?
Western Engineering provides many possibilities and paths for students to go down. After graduating high school, I had no idea which engineering stream I wanted to go into. Having a general first year allows you to find what interests you and what you would like to pursue for the next three years of school. If you find yourself clueless, like I once did, numerous resources are available for students to explore.
What do you do in your spare time?
In my spare time, I enjoy working out, playing video games, and hanging out with my girlfriend and friends. When I am not doing those things, you can usually find me either cooking or studying at home. Hockey also plays a big role in my life.
What is a fun fact about yourself?
A fun fact about myself is that I swam with dolphins. To be technical, it was a singular dolphin, and I only went about waist to stomach deep. An extremely cool experience.
Can you talk about your experiential learning experiences?
At Western, I am a part of our Rocketry team where we build rockets for competitions. In Rocketry there are a lot of students and there is a lot of student-led research. It allows you to gain experience working in a group and leading a research project that you wouldn’t be able to find elsewhere.
Study tips for current/future students?
Start studying early and often. I know everyone tells you this when you enter university, but this is the most overlooked thing by everyone. It is a life changer from trying to cram all the knowledge of an entire semester into your head 12 hours before the exam. Starting earlier allows you to learn and fully understand the material so you can somewhat relax and destress before heading into any exams or tests.
Can you talk about your residence experience?
My residence experience was great. I lived in Essex Hall, and I roomed with a friend from high school and met my two other roommates here. Western’s orientation week allowed me to become more familiar with the people I was living with for the next 8 months. The RA’s created plenty of opportunities for me to get to know the people on my floor and within the building. A lot of great memories were created while living in residence and it’s a time I like to look back on.
