Why Western Engineering?

I chose Western Engineering because of the sense of community I felt while visiting the Open House. Every student or professor I approached was welcoming and happy to answer all my questions. The ability to complete a common first year helped me explore the different engineering disciplines before choosing what fits best for me. The various clubs Western Engineering has to offer, helped me determine what I really enjoyed studying.

What do you do in your spare time?

In my spare time, I like to spend it with my friends/family. It could either be watching movies, cooking, or going on trips together. Other than that, I like to paint or read a good book.

What is a fun fact about yourself?

I lived in Saudi Arabia for about 9 years.

Can you talk about your experiential learning experiences?

While being a co-op student at various companies, I have been able to be involved in different tasks on a variety of projects. Some of these were challenging since I had never encountered them before. Although, with the help of my supervisor, I was able to learn something new and work through them efficiently. I have also been able to go on-site for some of these projects. It is interesting to see things that have been applied in drawings be constructed right in front of you.

Study tips for current/future students?

Make sure to put the due dates of assignments and projects in your calendar. It is easier to prioritize your tasks and activities when you know the deadlines. This is especially important if you join clubs or intramural sports teams. It is essential to give yourself plenty of time to make sure you understand the material. Do not be afraid to ask your professors or other students for help if you are unclear about something.

Can you talk about your residence experience?

I lived in Saugeen Maitland Hall in my first year, which is a traditional style residence. Sharing a double room with another person was intimidating at first, but I found that the other person was the reason why we both met so many people. While we were both in the room, we would always have our door open which invited other floormates to come into our room to hang out.
