Don’t be afraid to ask for help. Throughout my first year, I realized that everyone in my class is in the same boat—either offering help or looking for it.

Why Western Engineering?

I chose Western Engineering for its diverse community and opportunies for success. The faculty's variety of backgrounds creates a welcoming environment. Western’s commitment to excellence is evident through its top-tier research facilies, competitive funding, and access to one of the largest academic library systems in Canada. Dual degrees let you explore multiple fields—I wanted software engineering, but also hands-on work, so Electrical Engineering with AI dual degree was the perfect fit, allowing me to engage in both visual and practical aspects of engineering. Western Engineering has shown me that everyone can find their path to success!

What do you do in your spare time?

In my spare time, I love getting involved with the Undergraduate Engineering Society (UES), technical clubs, and aVending events where I can meet new people, make friends, and gain new skills. Contrary to the stereotype that engineers don’t have a social life due to academic pressure, I was able to balance both academic and social activitis through time management. As a first-year representative, I served as a bridge between the faculty and the student body, ensuring that students' voices were heard while building valuable connections. I also love walking around Western's campus and discovering new opportunities along the way.

Fun fact about yourself

I’ve always been passionate about cooking, and now I’m a pro at it. I love trying new recipes or creating my own!

Can you talk about your experiential learning experiences (co-op, internship, ELI, PEME, Global and Intercultural Engagement Honour etc.)?

My experiential learning has involved tackling real-world challenges through hands-on labs and teamwork projects. One of the most memorable experiences in the first year was the ES 1050 design showcase, where 2 of 5 we worked with clients to resolve real-life problems affecting our community. These experiences have allowed me to apply theoretical knowledge in practical situa<ons, preparing me for real engineering work. Career resources were another great opportunity that helped me connect with companies face-to-face and secure my future internship opportunities.

Study tips for future students

Don’t be afraid to ask for help. Throughout my first year, I realized that everyone in my class is in the same boat—either offering help or looking for it. Your professors, TAs, and classmates are all valuable resources. While working individually helps you 'lock in' and focus, it’s equally important to ask for help when needed. In engineering, we all depend on each other to succeed.

Can you talk about your residence experience?

Living off-campus with my parents has offered a unique perspective. It provides a quieter environment for studying and more family support, while still being close enough to easily access campus resources. The balance of being at home and staying connected with the university community has enhanced my overall college experience. Western was a great choice, as London’s quiet atmosphere and natural beauty make it an ideal place for educa<on.
