Why Western Engineering?

I chose Western Engineering because of the vast number of options available to students. When I was in high school, my two fields of interest were engineering and business. I had a hard time choosing between the two, but then I learned about the dual degree program at Western. The Engineering + Ivey HBA program allows me to pursue both of my interests and opens the door to countless opportunities.

What do you do in your spare time?

In my spare time, I aim to stay active. I enjoy going to the gym to exercise and playing sports with friends. During my first year at Western, I was involved in intramurals on a dodgeball team. I also enjoy watching sports and am a big fan of mixed martial arts and American football.

What was your orientation week experience like as a first-year student?

I had a great experience during orientation week in my first year. I had a lot of fun attending various events throughout the week. My favorite event was bubble soccer, which I had never played prior to orientation week. The Engineering Faculty Day was the most memorable. We explored the engineering buildings, learned more about the engineering community at Western, and previewed the many clubs, opportunities, and resources that Western Engineering offers.

Why did you choose your specific stream of engineering?

Heading into my first year of engineering, there were lots of streams I had an interest in. Western's general first year allowed me to explore all the disciplines and make an educated choice. I chose software engineering because I found enjoyment in using my knowledge of software to solve problems. Another factor that drew me into software engineering is its wide range applications. Whether it is renewable energy, automation, or finance, there is a need for software engineers in every field.

What is your favourite book, movie or TV show?

My favorite movies are the Planet of the Apes series. The series has been around for many years, with new movies still in production. The films rely heavily on CGI, and comparing earlier releases to the newer ones is a great reflection of how far technology has come. The movies feature amazing imagery and strong storytelling. I recommend giving them a watch if you haven’t already.

Who do you look up to/admire and why?

I look up to and admire my parents. My parents have instilled in me the values of hard work and commitment. They have inspired me to always be learning and have pushed me to strive for success.
