Sidhu receives 2005 Engineering Award for Excellence in Research
Dr. Tarlochan S. Sidhu, Hydro One Chair and Chair of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, has been selected as the winner of the 2005 Engineering Award for Excellence in Research for the Faculty of Engineering.
This award recognizes the pioneering, visionary and seminal research contributions of Dr. Sidhu in the field of power systems protection and relaying algorithms and techniques for microprocessor-based relays.
“The vast bodies of award winning research literature Dr. Sidhu and his graduate students have published over the past 20 years, and the large number of awards and recognitions bestowed upon him by the leading international professional organizations in his field, resulted in Dr. Sidhu receiving this award,” explains Western Engineering Dean, Franco Berruti. “Not to mention he has earned high acclaim, both nationally and internationally, for pursuing and promoting exceptionally high quality research through journal editorships, working groups, and university collaborations spanning several countries around the globe.”
Sidhu's outstanding research work is also recognized by NSERC with a very large Discovery Grant, which places Sidhu among the top five researchers in his field in Canada.
“We are extremely proud to recognize Dr. Tarlochan Sidhu with this prestigious award,” says Berruti. “This recognition is particularly noteworthy as we consider Tarlochan’s superior research work is paralleled by his outstanding leadership and management skills as Chair of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. He also has an outstanding reputation as a teacher and graduate student advisor.”
