Western Engineering staff, faculty and students nominated for first annual Western Green Awards
Congratulations to all who where nominated this year for the first annual Western Green Awards. The awards have been established by Western's Physical Plant to recognize individuals and groups who are working towards sustainable practices on campus.
Western Engineering nominees:
Financial Services Unit - for developing an electronic record archival system which has reduced paper purchases by 50%. The plan to reduce this number by another 25% over the next year.
Dr. Jason Gerhard - for addressing the causes, solutions, and issues surrounding climate change qualitatively and quantitatively in his curriculum, and inspiring his environmental engineering students to work towards a more sustainable future.
Sunstang Team - SunStang's work has helped advance solar-electric vehicle technology to a point where it is a viable competitor to replace the internal combustion engine. The team is actively involved in outreach activities at regional high-schools, university events and public exhibitions.
The Faculty of Engineering - for building the university's first LEED certified facility, in the Claudette MacKay-Lassonde Pavilion, and becoming an international leader in "Green" technologies
through research and classroom instruction.
