CEE Members Receive CSCE Honours
Dr. Michael Bartlett has been elected a Fellow of the Canadian Society for Civil Engineering, with the designation FCSCE. CSCE Fellows are members who have attained civil engineering excellence and who have contributed actively towards the progress of their profession.
The Thomas C. Keefer Medal for 2005 has been granted to the paper entitled "A design approach for selecting the optimum water cover depth for subaqueous disposal of sulphide mine tailings,” co-authored by M.A. Samad and E.K.
Yanful. The paper has also been published in Volume 42, No. 1 issue of the
Canadian Geotechnical Journal, in 2005. Samad was a Postdoctoral Fellow in the Department during 2002-2005 and is now employed with Bechtel Corporation, Frederick, Maryland, U.S.A. The Keefer Medal “is awarded annually for the best paper presented on a civil engineering subject in areas” other than surveying, structural engineering and heavy construction.

The awards will be presented at the CSCE Fellowships and Awards Banquet to be
held during the Annual Conference on Thursday, May 25, 2006 at the Hyatt Regency
Hotel in Calgary, Alberta.
