Hydro, UWO power students hook up

London Hydro is collaborating with the engineering department at the University of Western Ontario to the tune of $125,000.

Hydro officials presented an oversized cheque in that amount yesterday to university officials with the blessing of Ontario Energy Minister Donna Cansfield.

The money, in five installments of $25,000, will encourage collaboration between the public utility and the electric power engineering students at the university.

London Hydro chief executive Bernie Watts said students would be able to have "hands-on" experience working on an internship basis at Hydro.

The utility will benefit from fresh ideas from young minds and in access to research being undertaken by students, he said.
