"Three Little Pigs Project" Update
Mike Bartlett's engineering research team is
developing a test facility that will permit researchers, for the
first time anywhere in the world, to simulate and study realistic
damage to full-scale houses from wind, snow and rain.
The goals of the “Three
Little Pigs Project” as it is known are to change building codes to
construct safer, yet less expensive houses; develop cost-effective
methods to retrofit existing homes; and reduce human error in
construction.
Bartlett's research was
recently featured in the Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI)
supplement in Macleans magazine and the concrete industry is making
a significant in-kind donation. Recognition and
contributions like these will definitely help Bartlett and his
research team achieve their goals.
"A home is usually our
single most important personal investment, not just in North America
but around the world," says Bartlett. "We hope to make them
perform better and keep people safer."
