de Lasa receives
international recognition
Western Engineering Professor Hugo
de Lasa has been a key figure in furthering the understanding of the
science and technology of chemical reactors, especially in pursuit
of environmentally friendly process. His continuous dedication has
earned international recognition over the years. Most recently, de Lasa has been recognized by the Universitad Autonoma de Zacatecas
(Mexico) and the Canadian Academy of Engineering (CAE).
The Universitad Autonoma de
Zacatecas honoured de Lasa with an honourary degree May 13, 2005.
de Lasa was honoured for his significant contributions to the
enhancement of the education and internationalization of the
Universitad Autonoma de Zacatecas and for his unparallel commitment
to postsecondary and postgraduate education in Latin America.
In early June 2005, de Lasa was
inducted into the CAE, an independent, self-governing organization.
Inductees are elected by their peers on the basis of their
distinguished achievements and of their contributions to the
profession, the country and to society. The total number of active
fellows in the CAE slightly exceeds 250. Given a total of some
250,000 engineers across Canada, those elected to the CAE clearly
constitute an extraordinarily well-qualified and dedicated group.
In addition to receiving awards, de
Lasa has recently published a book entitled "Photocatalytic
Reaction Engineering." This
book was prepared in collaboration with Dr.B.Serrano, Universidad
Autonoma de Zacatecas and Dr.M.Salaices, Instituto de
Investigaciones Electricas, Mexico.
