GRC Awards Ceremony


The Geotechnical Research Centre honoured its top students at the GRC Awards Ceremony in the Spencer Engineering Building on Thursday, July 20.

Milos Novak Memorial Award
This Award was setup in memory of Professor Milos Novak. The award is normally awarded annually to an engineer to pursue graduate studies in Geotechnical Engineering at The University of Western Ontario. Special consideration will be given to students working in the area of dynamics and soil-structure interaction who have demonstrated a sound academic background and a potential for contribution to the engineering profession in general.

R.M. Quigley Award
The R.M. Quigley Award is named after Dr. R.M. Quigley, the founding director of the Geotechnical Research Centre and a distinguished Canadian Geotechnical and Geoenvironmental Engineer. The award is typically awarded annually to an engineer or scientist to pursue graduate studies in Geotechnical Engineering at The University of Western Ontario. Special consideration will be taken of a candidate's academic, professional and general contributions to the engineering profession.
Award recipient: Prasanna Kumar Mohan


L.G. Soderman Award
The L.G. Soderman Award, established in memory of the late Professor L.G. Soderman, distinguished Canadian Geotechnical Engineer, is awarded annually to an engineer to pursue graduate studies in Civil Engineering at The University of Western Ontario. The candidate's academic and professional qualifications, and general contribution to the engineering profession, are also taken into consideration.

John Booker Award
The John Booker Award was setup to commemorate a distinguished scientist and engineer, teacher, researcher and mentor who, while a professor at the University of Sydney, had close research collaboration with the Geotechnical Research Centre, Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, The University of Western Ontario. In addition to being an outstanding researcher, John Booker was known for fostering new talent as well as developing collaborative relationships in many different areas of research. The award is normally presented annually to an engineer or scientist to pursue graduate studies in Geotechnical or Geoenvironmental Engineering at The University of Western Ontario. Special consideration will be taken of a candidate's academic and professional contributions to the engineering profession with preference to students conducting research in computational geomechanics.
