Welcome message from the Dean

Welcome to the Western Engineering 2009 – 2010 academic year. It is an absolute honour to greet you today as the new Dean of Western Engineering, and I look forward with excitement to the coming year.

I officially began my five-year term on July 1, 2009. This summer, I was very busy settling into my new surroundings. The warm welcome and support from faculty and staff has been wonderful and I appreciate the time everyone has taken to help me in my new role. Now, I am eager to start the academic year and acquaint myself with all of you.

We will have a number of opportunities to meet and celebrate our successes over the next eight months. I hope you will join me for the grand opening of the Claudette MacKay-Lassonde Pavilion – more commonly known as our Green Building. This event will take place on Saturday, October 3 at 11:30 a.m., as part of Homecoming and the official launch of Western’s Make A Difference fundraising campaign.

In addition to planned celebration events like this, I will also keep in touch with you throughout the year via newsletters, emails, blogs and video messages, as well as opportunities for us to meet in person.

One of my top priorities over the next five years is to increase awareness about Western Engineering. Our Faculty is leading the way in areas such as wind, energy, water, and bio-fuels. We have recently showcased our leadership in these areas with the launch of the undergraduate Green Process Engineering Program this September, the opening of the Institute for Chemicals and Fuels from Alternative Resources (ICFAR), and the commitment to the WindEEE Dome project.

There are so many great stories to tell about Western Engineering faculty, staff and students. I look forward to working with you to promote all of our successes, ideas and accomplishments.
