In-School Workshops

During the Winter and Spring 2025Western Engineering Outreach offers workshops for elementary and secondary schools. The focus of these workshops is to increase the awareness and enjoyment of science and engineering while complimenting the Ontario Science and Technology Curriculum. Energetic Western Engineering Outreach instructors travel within London and the surrounding area to deliver workshops to students in Kindergarten to Grade 12.

Workshop Descriptions

- Cubetto Maps (Screen-free coding with robots for Kindergarten, Gr. 1, 2, 3)
- Creative Circuitry (Create a working circuit using household materials for Gr. 4, 5, 6, 7, 8)
- Micro:Bit Workshop (Use software and hardware to code for Gr. 4, 5, 6, 7, 8)
- Let's Rock (Intro to AI using a data set to teach a machine about lunar rocks for Gr. 4, 5, 6)
- Pitch Black (Engineer electrical breadboards in a blackout scenario for Gr. 9, 10)
- Assistive Technology (Design and prototype assistive devices for Gr. 9, 10)
- Neural Networks (Train your own artificial intelligence computer model for Gr. 9, 10, 11, 12)
- Crack the Code (Learn how to read encryptions for Gr. 8, 9, 10, 11, 12)

Cost

Each in-school workshop is 75 minutes (high school) to 120 minutes (elementary) and costs $150. There is an additional cost of $50 for schools located outside a 50km radius from the University. 

Bursaries

Bursaries covering the cost of the workshop may be available for schools with low-socioeconomic status.  Please email discover@uwo.ca to see if you qualify for a bursary.

Cancellation Policy

A 20% non-refundable administrative fee is applied to all cancellations made at least 10 business days prior to the in-school workshop. All cancellation requests must be submitted in writing. Cancellations requested less than 10 business days prior to the in-school workshop date will not be issued any refund. No refunds will be made in the event of the university or school closure.
