John Booker Award - Terms of Reference
The John Booker Award was set up to commemorate a distinguished scientist and engineer, teacher, researcher and mentor who, while a professor at the University of Sydney, had close research collaboration with the Geotechnical Research Centre, Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, The University of Western Ontario. In addition to being an outstanding researcher, John Booker was known for fostering new talent as well as developing collaborative relationships in many different areas of research. The Award will normally be presented annually to an engineer or scientist to pursue graduate studies in Geotechnical or Geoenvironmental Engineering at The University of Western Ontario.
The recipient will be chosen by the executive members of the Geotechnical Research Centre and approved by the Civil Graduate Committee. Special consideration will be taken of a candidate's academic and professional contributions to the engineering profession with preference to students conducting research in computational geomechanics.
Preference will be given to candidates who are Canadian citizens or landed immigrants but with consideration to visa students well advanced in their studies at Western.
