Terms of Reference - L.G. Soderman Award
The L.G. Soderman Award, established in memory of the late Professor L.G. Soderman, distinguished Canadian geotechnical engineer, will normally be awarded annually to an engineer to pursue graduate studies in Civil Engineering at The University of Western Ontario.
The recipient will be chosen by the Civil Graduate Committee, taking into consideration the candidate's academic and professional qualifications and his general contribution to the engineering profession. The final choice will be made bearing in mind those qualities of pragmatism which earned Professor Soderman the widespread respect of his fellow Engineers.
Preference will be given to candidates enrolling in Geotechnical Engineering, although candidates in other Civil Engineering programs will be considered.
Candidates must be Canadian citizens or landed immigrants, preferably with some professional experience.
The award will normally be held for one year, but may, under special circumstances, be extended for a second year.
