The mission of the Western CGS Student Chapter is to achieve the highest standards in the practice of promoting Geotechnical Engineering and to establish a collaborative environment for students, university faculty, industrial professionals, public and other CGS chapters.  Based on the mission, the student chapter has planned a series of events (many of which could be virtual and provided through internet resources):

Academic and professional lectures, seminars, and workshops to provide effective routes for knowledge exchange between students, university faculty and industrial professionals.

  • Field tours to provide a bridge between academic and industrial viewpoints.
  • Competitions between students to encourage and motivate them to research and improve their awareness of Geotechnical Engineering.
  • Exhibitions/demonstrations to provide platforms where everyone can propose and discuss their ideas, research, or potential projects.
  • Job fairs to create opportunities for industrial meeting future employers.

The student executive committee is as follows:

Ahmed Fouad Hussein - Position: President 

Ahmed has more than four years experience in research, teaching, and consulting in structural engineering with major projects in the Middle East with international codes and sophisticated numerical and drafting tools. Also, planning and construction for civil works. He did his master's degree in Geotechnical Engineering, and his research area was related to Numerical Analysis and Novel Limit Equilibrium Analysis. Currently, he is working on a PhD in Geotechnical Engineering with Prof Hesham El Naggar.

Jiahao Wang - Position: Vice President 

Jiahao completed his master’s studies with RESTORE research group at Western University and is currently a PhD student in RESTORE, under the supervision of Dr. Jason Gerhard, focusing on the research of soil remediation. Within his graduate studies, Jiahao is also serving as an executive on Western's Water Chapter, promoting student interest in the water environment and safe drinking water.

Seyedshayan Hahemi - Position: Secretary/Treasurer

Shayan completed his MSc studies from Amirkabir University of Technology and is currently a PhD student at Western University. His research lies mainly in the areas of theoretical and computational geomechanics, with focus on application of mesh-free methods such as DEM and SPH to model soil behavior.
