Research Interests

Dr. Gkouti's research focuses on enhancing the properties of advanced materials by developing innovative composites, smart and soft materials, or by improving their performance. To better understand the relationship between mechanical properties and overall performance, Dr. Gkouti uses advanced numerical simulations at different scales of material response, ranging from the microstructure to the macroscopic behaviour of components.

Dr. Gkouti is also exploring the transformative potential of integrating AI-driven technologies, including intelligent defect detection, quality control, and autonomous failure prediction, in solid and applied mechanics, materials science, and technology. Ensuring smart manufacturing and multi-physics modeling/simulations using cutting-edge experimental and image-based techniques requires the integration of AI into solid and experimental mechanics, engineering design, materials science, and technology. Dr. Gkouti's lab deals with applications requiring a comprehensive integration of AI-driven methods to fabricate, characterize, model, and simulate advanced composite and smart materials.
