Recent gifts to the Faculty of Engineering
Steven Dengler, BA ’93 has made a generous gift of $35,000, in honour of former classmate Lynda Diane Shaw, to support the construction of the Claudette MacKay-Lassonde Pavilion at Western. This new $22 million, four-storey, 45,000 square-foot facility includes laboratories for environmental engineering research and houses space for student engagement and learning through hands-on design opportunities. In addition, this building will be Western’s first LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Certified facility. In recognition of this generous support, Western is pleased to name the main floor lounge in the Claudette MacKay-Lassonde Pavilion, the Lynda Diane Shaw Memorial Lounge.
The London Section of the Institution of Electrical & Electronics Engineers (IEEE) has contributed an additional $3,000 to build an endowment fund they established at Western in 1978 to create an annual award for an undergraduate student in the Electrical & Computer Engineering program. This new gift will help increase the value of the award for future years.
Mandel Scientific Company Inc. has committed a total gift of $134,000 in support of the self-directed research of Dr. Hugo de Lasa, Professor in Chemical & Biochemical Engineering, and Director, Chemical Reactor Engineering Centre, at The University of Western Ontario. deLasa is focusing on Green Energy and Environmentally Friendly Chemical Technologies, a project within the Faculty of Engineering, located in the Claudette MacKay-Lassonde Pavilion.
