Engineering students say, "Enough is enough!"

How many mass emails do you receive in a week; one, two, three?
According to a number of Western Engineering students, they receive
over twenty mass emails in any given week.
Students
are frustrated, saying they do not have time to sort through all of
the mass emails they are receiving. As a result, they are
deleting the messages before reading them and some students
have gone as far as to block the student list emails.
Distributing mass emails
is no longer an effective communication
tool; however we still need to get our messages out to faculty,
staff and students.
What can we do?
Proposed Solution
As one student has pointed out, the information being distributed
via mass email is the exact same information available in
Engineering Now. He's right. For this reason,
lets take
advantage of Engineering Now.
Rather than sending out a mass email to announce a BBQ, seminar or
lecture, forward your information to me (Allison
Stevenson) and I will ensure your announcement is
published in Engineering Now. During the off weeks
when Engineering Now is not released, a single
Engineering Now Deadlines & Events Reminder email will be sent to all
faculty, staff and students to remind us of the upcoming events for the
week ahead. The goal is to decrease the amount of mass emails
from Western Engineering to one per week rather than twenty.
This will hopefully increase
acknowledgement and attendance at events.
