Co-op Experience and Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) Licensing
Beyond the invaluable practical experience and competitive salary gained through co-ops, it’s noteworthy that a maximum of 12 months of this employment may be used towards the 48 months of experience required for licensing as a Professional Engineer in the Province of Ontario. For the experience to count it needs to have been gained after the student has completed the first half of the classroom component of the degree or equivalent educational qualifications and does not pre-date the halfway mark. When applying for the P. Eng designation the applicant can include this pre-graduation experience in the experience summary, being careful to select the pre-graduation option.
Licensing outside of Ontario – Please refer to the policies and procedures of the professional engineering governing body in your area.
