Dr. Amarjeet Bassi, Chair of the Department of chemical and biochemical engineering, invented and patented the world’s first circulating fluidized bed ion exchange chromatography system. Dr. Bassi’s specialties are in bioenergy, biofuels, microalgae, bio-separations, biosensors, bacteriorhodopsin, and liquid-solid circulating fluidized beds. Dr. Giovanni Fanchinin has held the Tier 2Canada Research Chair in Carbon-based Nanomaterials (2010-2020), whose research concentrates on fabrication and testing of electronic and optical nanodevices, including solar cells, and their behavior in the environment.
