MEng Project

The objectives of the CEE MEng project are to gain experience in: i) analyzing and obtaining a solution to advanced engineering problems, ii) the practical application of analytical, numerical and/or experimental engineering techniques, iii) synthesizing technical data such that a viable solution to an engineering problem can be reached and iv) preparing an engineering report that describes the problem, the methods used in the analysis of the problem, and the results and recommendations arising from the analysis.

Eligible MEng students can apply to transfer into the project-based MEng program at the beginning of their second term of study. The deadline to apply to enroll in the MEng project is the course enrollment deadline of the second term of study (January 15th, May 15th, or September 15th). Students in the project-based MEng program complete 8 graduate courses and an MEng project.

Students who are interested in completing an MEng project must first secure a professor who agrees to supervise their project, as well as a second examiner. Students can learn more about professors' research interests by viewing their online profiles on our Faculty Members page.

After securing a professor and second examiner, a student must complete the top section of the MEng Project Enrollment Form and submit the form to ceeprofessionalgrad@uwo.ca along with a copy of their completion certificate for the OWL Laboratory Safety and Hazardous Waste Management training course. The MEng Project Enrollment form must be submitted before the course enrollment deadline.

Completing the MEng project will provide students with training in the preparation of an engineering report. As part of this training the students are required to give an oral presentation of the results of their projects. The presentation will be held at the end of the term in which the final project report is submitted and will be scheduled in consultation with the project supervisor.

The presentation is to be no more than twenty minutes in duration and the student must present a concise description of the engineering problem that the project addresses, important background information relevant to the project, methods used to analyze and solve the problem, results of the analyses, and discussion of the impact and application of the results.
