WE Bots race to third place at 2015 International Autonomous Robot Racing Competition
Western Engineering News | August 28, 2015
Earlier this summer, Western’s WE Bots team competed in the 2015 International Autonomous Robot Racing Competition at the University of Waterloo where they placed third overall for design, drag and circuit races.
“We are very proud of our results,” said WE Bots President Jacob Tryon. “We had a strong design and were the only team other than Waterloo to go around the track autonomously from start to finish.”
For this competition, students work together to design and build robotic vehicles that can navigate twisting, obstacle-filled courses without any human guidance or control. Students strengthen their team-building and leadership skills while gaining knowledge of mechatronics and electrical engineering, control software, and system integration.
“Robot Racing provides our students with real-world, hands-on engineering experience,” explained Eugen Porter, staff supervisor for WE Bots. “Our team works together very well to design and build a new robot for these types of competitions every year.”
