Two Western Engineering Professors elevated to IEEE Fellows

The IEEE fellow is a distinction reserved for select IEEE members whose extraordinary accomplishments in any of the IEEE fields of interest are deemed fitting of this prestigious grade elevation. IEEE Fellow is the highest grade of membership and is recognized by the technical community as a prestigious honor and an important career achievement. A total of 19 Canadians have been elevated to IEEE Fellows for the class of 2017.

Jiang, has been with Western Engineering for 25 years. He has been an NSERC/UNENE IRC (Senior Industrial Research Chair) Professor since 2003. His research activities are in the areas of instrumentation and control for energy systems covering from small-scale renewable energy resources to mega-scale nuclear power plants. He works closely with Canadian industries and published extensively in the above areas. Beyond academic environment, Jiang also serves as a technical expert in several committees in the IAEA (International Atomic Energy Agency) and the IEC (International Electrotechnical Commission) involving development of industry standards for safety systems in nuclear power plants. Wang, who is also a Professor and Canada Research Chair, was recognized for contributions on OFDM and distributed transmission technologies. His work is useful for improving the overall capacity, efficiency and security of wireless communications systems. He is an inventor/co-inventor for over 20 patents. Two of his technologies have been adopted in industry standards. Research activities in his group are currently focused on 5G technologies, signal processing for communications, communications security, wireless IoT, and locationing technologies. Wang has received many awards and recognitions, including Canada Research Chair, IEEE Distinguished Lecturer, President’s Excellence Award at Communications Research Centre Canada, Canadian Federal Government Public Service Award, Ontario Early Researcher Award and five IEEE Best Paper Awards. He currently serves as an Editor/Associate Editor for several IEEE journals. He is also the Director of NSERC CREATE program in Communications Security, Privacy and Cyberethics (CSPC).
