Rasoulinezhad receives Emerging Leader award for cleantech innovation

To celebrate Canada’s “Sustainability Heroes”, Clean50 recognizes outstanding sustainability leaders and cleantech innovators each year through its Emerging Leaders awards.

This year, Dr. Ramtin Rasoulinezhad — MESc’17, PhD’21, and Western Engineering instructor — received a Clean50 Emerging Leader award for his work in cleantech innovation, while serving as Director of Hybrid Solutions for AVL Manufacturing Inc.

"Canada’s Clean50 Awards are announced annually by Delta Management Group and the Clean50 organization to recognize those 50 individuals or small teams, from 16 different categories, who have done the most to advance the cause of sustainability and clean capitalism in Canada over the past 2 years.” — Gavin Pitchford, CEO, Delta Management Group

Ramtin is part of the team at AVL Manufacturing helping to develop hybrid power for oil and gas pumps, resulting in a 50% fuel savings by downsizing the generators 25%. This industry first solution improved the overall power quality by 15+%, and also helped to reduce the levelized cost of energy. 

Additionally, Ramtin and his team developed a novel hybrid system for net-zero energy buildings, expanding the penetration of renewable and clean energies in commercial and residential buildings.

Ramtin has been successful in other projects with AVL as well, including the recent development of a mobile medical module to screen COVID-19 patients. 

When asked about his overall feelings on receiving the Clean50 Emerging Leader award, Ramtin is thrilled to be among his fellow honourees.

“I feel blessed that I have had the chance to work with amazing professionals at AVL Manufacturing,” he says. “I’m also grateful for the advice I’ve received from Dr. Gerry Moschopoulos in expanding my technical knowledge during my PhD studies at Western Engineering.”
