Accomplishment Statement Development
When writing bullet points for your resume, it is important to include the skills you used and why doing that duty/function/activity was relevant.
Below are two statements that could be added to a resume. Notice how, in both example 1 and example 2, statement number 2 has a greater impact than statement number 1.
Example 1
- Able to use macros when developing Excel spreadsheet.
- Developed an Excel spreadsheet that incorporated the use of macros and coded using Visual Basic for Application (VBA) to increase administrative task's efficiency by 65%.
Example 2
- Served food to guests.
- Communicated daily with group of 7-14 coworkers to provide high-quality customer service.
Notice the difference?
Answer the following questions when developing your own accomplishment statements:
- What did you do?
- How did you do it?
- What was the result?
Consider adding – How much. How many. How often.
