Become a Career Mentor

Please note that the 2024/2025 Career Mentor Applications have closed.

Who is eligible to apply?

  • Undergraduate Students in their final year who will return from a Long-Term Co-op.
  • Undergraduate Students that have completed 3 co-op terms.

When to apply?

Student applications for the Career Mentor program open every July. Students will receive an email notification to their university account from the Career Services team.

Career Mentor Responsibilities:

  • Builds and nurtures relationships with both graduate and undergraduate students throughout the academic year.
  • Supports students in their co-op search and career development, offering valuable guidance for informed decisions.
  • Listens actively and provides honest, constructive feedback.
  • Maintains strict confidentiality.
  • Attends Career Services events, workshops, and training sessions regularly.
  • Encourages students to seek guidance and participate in Career Services team events.
  • Offers input on creating new workshops and student initiatives.
  • Collaborates and networks with fellow Career Mentors.
  • Serves as a positive academic and social role model.

Requirements:

  • Commitment to mentoring for the entire academic year.
  • Availability for a minimum of 4-8 hours per month.
  • Possess strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work with a diverse community, including students, faculty, staff, and stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with a consultative approach.
  • Excellent listening and communication skills.
  • Self-motivated and positive attitude.
  • Openness to new ideas and methods, with a proactive attitude for improvement.
  • Genuine desire to support student success.
  • Willingness to attend mandatory Career Mentoring events, workshops, and training.
  • Support in minimum 3 Career Services events per academic term for recognition on their co-curricular record.
