The Optomechatronics Research Laboratory at Western is a highly interdisciplinary group that explores new materials and fabrication techniques for creating the next generation of mechanically flexible optical devices, light-driven micromachines and wearable sensor systems.
Research activities include: printable optically transparent electronics; mechanically flexible large area optical waveguide sheets; advanced laser material processing; and light-driven micromachines. The long-term goal of this research is to advance the design strategies and fabrication methods used to create the next generation of mechanically flexible, stretchable bioelectronic devices and bio-integrated systems, opto-electronic technologies and light-driven systems.
Applications of interest: printed flexible bioelectronic and optoelectronic circuitry in patient health monitoring, wearable body sensors, smart food packaging, and large area imaging.
