Application Process
How can MEng students apply to participate in a Co-op?
Follow the 6-step process to apply to participate in Co-op.
Application Deadline:
Fall Start - December 15th
Winter Start - April 15th
Spring/Summer Start: August 15th
Note: Co-op applications will not be accepted past these deadlines.
Step 1:
- Students are required to pay an annual application fee of $125 on the Engineering Ecommerce Site
- Click on the tab Course Fees and select Co-op Application Fee – MEng and Add to cart.
- Click on the 🛒 at the top of the page and fill out information before clicking Checkout.
- Ensure that your first and last name (student name) is entered in the appropriate field (especially if the name on the credit card is not the same as the student’s name).
- Students may pay by Visa, MasterCard, or Debit Visa.
- Once your payment is processed, you will receive an email receipt. Please save a copy, as you will need to upload proof of payment in Step 2 below.
Step 2:
Students are required to submit an application through Western Connect. To submit your Co-op program application:
- Login to your Western Connect account.
- Click the INTERNSHIP/CO-OP tab on the left side of the screen.
- Click the secondary tab UNDERGRADUATE/GRADUATE on the left side of the screen.
- Click on the INTERN/CO-OP HOME tab on the left side of the screen.
- To apply for a program, select + Apply to a Program at the top right of this page and select Apply under the Master of Engineering (MEng) Co-op program.
IMPORTANT: When applying, please ensure you have carefully read and agreed to the Engineering Co-op Expectations file. It is essential to understand that you will be held fully responsible for complying with all the expectations outlined within the document.
Step 3:
- The Career Services team will review the student's submission to ensure both previously outlined steps have been successfully completed. Once approved, the student will be eligible to move forward to the next steps of the co-op application process, which includes the successful completion of the mandatory Co-op Curriculum Module found on OWL. This is a prerequisite for gaining access to the co-op job board on Western Connect. Instructions will be provided via the student’s university email account.
Step 4:
- Students will complete the mandatory Co-op Curriculum Module found on OWL.
Step 5: (Only applicable to International Students)
International students are required to secure an approved co-op work permit through the IRCC website.
- Western Engineering’s Career Services team will email international students directly via the student’s university email account with details on the next steps for co-op work permits. For more information click here.
Step 6:
- Upon completing the Co-op curriculum, students will gain access to Western University’s in-house job board on Western Connect, where students can start applying for co-op placements. This will be communicated via email to the student’s university email account. For more information on next steps related to Western Connect click here.
Status of your application – Student can view the status of your access to Western Connect by selecting the INTERNSHIP/CO-OP tab when logged in to your Western Connect account.
If your application has been declined - You have not met one or more of the eligibility requirements. Please contact Career Services to discuss.
