Recruitment Cycle

Western Engineering offers flexible and continuous recruitment. Students are encouraged to regularly check the Western Connect co-op job board, as new positions are being posted on a continuous basis.

How do MEng students apply to co-op opportunities?

To login and view ALL current MEng co-op postings on Western Connect:

  • Login to Western Connect: https://connect.uwo.ca/home.htm
  • Utiilize the side toolbar to
    • Click the internship/co-op tab
    • Click the undergraduate/graduate tab
    • Click the intern/co-op jobs tab

Disclaimer: Students should only apply for co-op opportunities for which they are eligible. MEng students are eligible for 4-month co-op positions, while MEng GDip students can apply for either 4-month or 8-month co-op positions.

Each posting has its own application deadline date/time.

  • Students are responsible for applying, submitting the requested documents by the employer (resume, cover letter, unofficial transcripts), and interviewing for the position, if selected.
  • To view your unofficial transcript, log in to your Student Center
    • Click the View and Order Documents icon
    • On the left-hand side click the View Unofficial Transcript
    • For report type, select Unofficial Transcript and click Submit button located near the top right of the page (to view the document, ensure that the web browser used is set to allow popups and that the device can open PDF documents.
    • A new window will open with the unofficial transcript, be sure to save and obtain it when requested within job applications.
  • When applying to co-op postings, students must ensure that they are appropriately applying through the method indicated by the employer.
    • There are 3 options: through connect, employer website, or via email.

Is it possible to find a MEng Co-op opportunity outside of Western Connect?

Yes, Students who are interested in pursuing a company on their own for a Co-op position are welcome to do so, to learn more click here.

Interviews

  • Interviews can take place via telephone, virtually, or in-person.
  • If selected for an interview, you will be either contacted directly by the employer, by the Engineering Career Services team, or by the work-integrated partners from Central here at Western University with an interview request.
  • Be sure to check your Western e-mail, as you will primarily be notified via email.
    • Ensure to set up a professional voicemail in case contacted via telephone.
  • The final decision will be up to the employer, it is not guaranteed that a student will secure a co-op.

Offers

If selected employers will contact the student directly or the Engineering Career Services team, or the work-integrated partners from central will reach out to the student with job offers details.

  • Be sure to check your Western e-mail, as you will primarily be notified via email.
    • Ensure to set up a professional voicemail in case contacted via telephone.

IMPORTANT:  If an opportunity is accepted outside of Western Connect, the student is responsible for informing the Engineering Career Services Team. This should be done by submitting a Co-op Approval Request Form containing all the necessary details of the offer.
