Study Permit Review – International Students
How do international students apply for co-op?
International students completing an engineering co-op in Canada are required to hold a valid study permit that includes on-campus work authorization conditions printed on it.
The process is outlined below:
Step 1: Email Valid Study Permit to Engineering Career Services
- International students are required to email their valid study permit to wecareer@uwo.ca to have the document reviewed by a Career Services Officer - Student Specialist.
Step 2: Upload the Letter from Faculty Received to Western Connect Application Form
- If the student is eligible to apply into the co-op program and their study permit includes on-campus work authorization, they will be provided with a formal letter from the faculty by the Career Services Officer - Student Specialist to upload to their Western Connect application form. As per step#2 of the application process. When submitting a co-op application on Western Connect, international students will be invited to confirm their residency status and be prompted to review the Undergraduate (UG) Acknowledgement Letter during the application process. Students must acknowledge understanding of the terms outlined in the document before submitting the application.
What happens if an international student does not hold a study permit with the on-campus work authorization?
In the event a student does not hold a study permit with the on-campus work authorization, but is eligible for co-op, they will be advised to connect to Western International for further support before a letter from the faculty can be provided.
