Western Engineering Summer Academy (WESA)

What is WESA?

Western Engineering Summer Academy (WESA) is designed for students going into Grades 7 to 12. The program offers students opportunities to explore various disciplines of engineering, learn about university life, and enhance their extracurriculars with experiential learning.

The theme of this year’s WESA program is “Exploring Engineering”. The program is open to all students going into Grades 7 to 12; there is no special experience required. During WESA, you’ll experience various disciplines of engineering through:

  • facility tours
  • hands-on STEM activities
  • collaborative team challenges
  • opportunities to meet Western faculty and staff members

Western Engineering Outreach staff are mindful of the range of experience and prior knowledge WESA participants bring to camp and regularly check in with participants throughout the week. Activities are designed and selected to be appropriate for a range of grades and are flexible based on the grade of the participant. WESA participants are supervised by senior camp staff at all times to support their participation and engagement.

WESA Dates & Times

This summer, WESA will feature the same one-week program that is repeated over three weeks. Therefore, students going into Grades 7 to 12 should register for only one session. Please note this is a change from previous years.

We look forward to seeing you at one of the following WESA weeks.

  • July 14 to 18 → This week is “Just for Girls”. We welcome all who identify.
  • July 28 to August 1 → This week is open to all
  • August 11 to 15  → This week is open to all

WESA runs from 9:00 am to 3:30 pm Monday to Friday, except holidays. Lunch is from 12:00 to 1:00 pm daily.
